WISCONSIN UNIVERSITY & BLANCA WORKSHOP

January 13th and 14th, 2015
Blanca, the Department of Dairy Science of the University of Wisconsin, and the Department of Ruminant Production of IRTA (Barcelona) have partnered to foster professionalization programs among the dairy sector in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

To inaugurate this partnership, a unique event and opportunity for professionals was organized in Blanca on January 13-14, 2015. The event, which gathered 48 professionals from 13 different countries, counted with the participation of 8 faculty members from the University of Wisconsin that, for the first time ever, analyzed and dissected a real dairy farm from Wisconsin from all angles of dairy production in an interactive manner, focused on prioritizing decisions and plans of action to improve profitability of the case herd.

Three workshops will take place during 2015. A total 15 hours of intense work in the developing and analyzing specific aspects do dairy production will be devoted at each workshop. The workshops will breakout the attendees in two groups to facilitate discussion and hands-on analysis of specific data. Each breakout session will begin with a central question, such as “Is there a problem with reproduction?” or “Can we improve profit by modifying the ration” and then will be followed by interaction among participants facilitated by the instructors.

We would like to thank all the participants for taking part of this Workshop.
